Strong gusty wind sent a pole swaying into my side mirror of my car causing it to shatter - have no idea where I should get it fixed/replaced - any suggestions appreciated :)

most glass guys can just glue a new mirror in place so long as its only the glass broken and not the electrics

If it's just the mirror/glass or the whole side mirror unit - go to the wreckers & find a cheap replacement!

If you have glass cover included in your insurance you can probably get it repaired free.

its a 2003 golf - I think it just the glass that is shattered (yes I'm clueless!) - not sure about electrics - everything seems intact & no not the back plastic cover

Trouble with putting in a homemade one from a glass crowd is, it will be flat and you will be accustomed to the original curved one.
Wreckers dismantle cars and sell the parts off them. Google

Try the parts department of your nearest VW agent for a replacement glass. One for my Mitsubishi cost around $100, I tried the wreckers first but they wanted to sell the complete sidemirror unit with electrics. You'll may have to get a panelbeater to fit, as on my Mitsi the glass is glued into a plastic frame that clips into the electrics. In the end I went to Pick a Part, they had 1/2 dozen of my model but all the rightside mirrors were gone, eventually got one off someone wrecking a Mitsi on Trademe, deal was I paid first ($20) and removed the mirror glass myself as its easily broken prising it out of its clips.
