What do you want the vehicle for!
The Challenger is still a separate chassis so is more offroad orientated, the Highlander is unibody and should be much better behaved on the road (it's basically a tall Camry)

basically, like the 7 seats, but want 4WD, tow the boat, pull the boat off a slipery ramp, and mild 4WDing.

The Highlander will do all you require and whether zazzman likes it or not (wait for his imput coming soon) the Toyota's resale value will be higher than any other brand.

Buy secondhand. Don't waste your $ and the worlds precious resources buying new.

Gilligan, tell me why the Challenger is crap, nice to hear an oppinion, but follow it up with the reasoning if possible, cheers

We had a customer who was wishing to trade his 2010 Highlander done 6,000kms as the wife didn't like it. He paid just over $50k for it brand new - we used the motorweb tender service to try get a dealer willing to take it off our hands - the best offer we got was $34,500 and they would have retailed it for $37k.

They're probably say something about the old wives tale "don't buy anything starting with M" or something to that regard - "my next door neighbours aunties one is crap cause the cambelt snapped".

I think they are almost two different vehicles for different purposes as mentioned above. The challenger wouldn't be a comfortable seven seater as the higher floor would make it a little more cramped. I think a Pajero is probably a better model than the Challenger if choosing Mitsubishi.
I find the looks of the Highlander too boring, there is just nothing daring about it whatsoever.

PW if I could find a deal like that I would take it

cant afford the Pajero at over 70K, and the Prado at 100K, so only two that I like so far are the Challenger and Highlander, but the choice is getting more limited. Am replacing a range rover which has been awesome, but is a lot hungry on gas, and getting close to its use by date, but cant find a good late model used RR to replace it at areasonable price

if you want 7 seat go for the highlander, the Mitzi is more aimed at the offroad market whereas the highlander drives like a car, damn good drive to, same motor as the Aurion
$37k retail for a 2010, I doubt it, we sell 07's for $38k!

$34,500 is what we were offered by Albany Toyota.

The Highlanders are certainly very popular. My mechanic has one and loves it. Mind you he speaks highly of most Toyota products.

kia r series 7 seater diesel, tow anythng, long warranty, like the hyndai with same engines hold value well, were 44495 new now 49995 but a few demos around for 40k and low running costs.highlander - dull, challenger - farm vehicle for city farm, new territory or sorento for my money.

It was a 4WD 3.5 V6 in white, not the limited model. Had factory alloys etc.

Think I have decided on a Jeep Wrangler unlimited diesel 5 Dr, only has the 5 seats, but kinda cool.

Thats a good looking car, but we have discovered that we will need the low range box, found a good deal on a 2008 Jeep with low k's and a god price compared to new, so if we realy like it we will get a new one next year, and should break even on what we paid, and if we dont like it wil move it on again quickly. Thanks for the comments, will let you know how it goes

all I can say is. resale on them will be a bitch, and reliability when it gets older perhaps not the best either.
