If Passats and Audis are so unreliable.

Jazz - I post this strictly as someone who doesn't do my own servicing and want any issues to be spotted and sorted durung a service as opposed to me enjoying being an 'enthusiast' owner.

Anyway I'm after whatever Audi or Passat Wagon is most reliable.Would rather avoid 4WD. Super power not really important. Have $10,500 max. What mileage might I get and would that be a bit risky!

Would also be itnerested in a Golf Wagon if its significantly cheaper (for a given mileage) and reliable.

Cheers!

p.s. I live pretty near Qualitat

My mate has a 2001 Bora. Has done 230.000 kms and has never had an once of trouble. He changes the oil every 5000kms. It runs like new so it all depends on how the car has been looked after in the first place.

Sort of hijacked my own thread there - but couldn't find how to send a personal message to Jazz.

What I was also getting at is that reliabilty is not one thing - reliability figures for new cars might be very different to reliabilty for used cars with 100k on the clock. Similalry a warning light which stays on is different to a broken engine. Wondered whether VW/Audi did better or worse as they got older.

Worse. Get a Skoda. Much better!

Yeah of course Euros cost the same. Tui. Friends 2008 Audi S3 needs (as a regular service) new discs and pads at 60,000km, $1600 thank you retail price,

The S3 is a little rocket, so I bet the parts are very highly specced. How often do they do 60,000kms.!

I'm going to say Audi followed closely behind by Mercedes.

Just shop around for parts. My brake pads and discs were quoted at 450 plus gst a side (just front) ended up 660 incl fitted for the lot at a specialist parts importer.Pads etc are much the same price as my pervious CAldina GT-T was. Services are not too bad if you shop around but it's only 650 at the dealer for a full service or 325 for an oil change. The oil is bloody expensive wherever you go. I have an Allroad 2.7 turbo and its cheaper to service at archibalds than an evo7 would have been at donnithornes. Allroad 650/15000 km, Evo 400/5000 km.Find something which has a full service history and hopefully all the common faults have been fixed.
