Overheating!

fish_n_doodles, Jan 30, 7:25pm
I got a van and its a diesel, as long as i keep topping the radiator up with water every few days its fine but if i forget i have problems with it overheating.
As long as i drive it with caution and try to stay away from hills i can make it from a to b ok but id rather fix the problem.
Any ideas on the problem and how i can fix it!

Simple take it to a mechanic, will be a simple fix vs the cost of a new engine.

any other symptoms!Any oily sludge in the radiator! rusty lookingstains on the engine! white smoke out the exhaust! rough running after it fires up!Is it a Mitsi or a Mazda! (lol)

Are you getting water/steam out the tailpipe!

Is the oil on the dipstick still dark colour etc.

ok u may have a blocked radiator check all hoses id say if its using wateru have a blowen head gasket if you keep driven it round and water is going into the engine u can risk scoring the bores or cylinders and stuff the rings which makes it smoky .

Is your engine overheating or is it just rising on the temperature guage,, if you give us more info, and I mean a lot more,, we can help you.

check your rad cap ,is it pressurizingie when it is warmed up is the rad hose firm !other wise it will just expand coolant into the recovery tank then fill that and push it out the overflow esp when sitting in trafficand hills etc

to work properly the cooling system needs a good working recovery cap they have 2 seals in them it's probably the most overlookedpart a system that wont pressurize will boil

floor damp in passenger or drivers side!

biff it it be rooted by now you probably got no antifreeze in the cooling system since years!
if so everything will be rooted waterpump likely pissing out radiator blockedand all hoses dead brittle from rust and corosion not to mention the frost-plugs that are rotted out of the engine.
If you always hadantifreeze in then the problem may be way smaller the above is what plain water does to cars.

Normally by now someone would have asked What Make ,model and engine etc. Either that or people just think this is a wind up. A bit more info would be good.
