Families looking for high speed entertainment this Waitangi day need look no further than Fram Autolite Dragway. With the first of the Century Batteries Power Series Championship rounds about to kick off.

The Meremere drag racing facility will host the NZDRA Northern Nationals, with New Zealand's top tier drag racing set to keep the whole family entertained.

NZDRA CEO Chris Tynan said it was an experience not to be missed.

"Drag racing is just one of those sports where you have to be there to really experience the sights, the sounds, the smells, the whole experience," said Tynan.

The ever-popular methanol-burning Top Alcohol Funny Cars and Dragsters are sure to provide some great racing action for the fans with new additions to the race division insuring plenty of 5 second 390kph action.

"Top Alcohol is a category that is always guaranteed to produce some exciting racing, some tightly-fought battles" said Tynan.

The other headliner class is Top Doorslammer, these 3000 horsepower machines always deliver a wild ride as their pilots attempt to man handle the wildest sedans on earth from the start line to the end of the quarter mile.

"These short wheel based, over powered street appearing cars struggle for traction every time they approach 280kph at the 200 metre mark" said Tynan.

Not to be missed are the other 11 racing divisions catering from low 7 second Altereds without supercharged power to the well supported Junior Dragster division. This is where children as young as seven race replica dragsters to times that would embarrass a V8 Super car.

"Another great thing about drag racing is that access to the pit area is included in your event ticket, and you can stand by and watch the crews working on these high-powered machines just a few feet away.

"The sport has something for everyone and with the whole range of NZDRA classes hitting the track on Sunday - the family is sure to be entertained."
