I am a fussy old codger and loathe any extraneous noises in my car. Lately my lifters have been ticking on a cold start and that annoys me a LOT! I was recommended Pro-Ma MBL8. Is this a product you'd use in your car engine!

Or do you have a better recommendation for an additive!
I had an oil/filter change yesterday.

jummybuffett, Dec 20, 7:04pm
its the best product on the market that ive found so far

bmwnz, Dec 20, 7:05pm
Thank you very much. Is it readily available!

therafter1, Dec 20, 7:06pm
Stickit in your gearbag as well, you will notice the difference immediately.

bmwnz, Dec 20, 7:07pm
I drive automatic. Use it still!

bmwnz, Dec 20, 7:09pm
Thanks muchly. I didn't think so, but very helpful advice to know. :)

An auto is a 'slushbag' LOL

male_timaru, Dec 20, 7:16pm
YES awesome product

rovercitroen, Dec 20, 7:21pm
Yip. It is a great product. Only additive I would use.

bmwnz, Dec 20, 7:21pm
Thank you. Who stocks it! Repco, Supercheap etc!

unbeatabull, Dec 20, 7:22pm
Another yes here, use it regularly in customers and my own cars which start getting a bit of lifter noise.

snoopy221, Dec 20, 7:26pm
Mitshubishi dealers usually have it.
With the advent of overhead cam engines with relevant small hydrualic lifters the small steel plate valve in the lifters attains a *varnish* coating.
Which fails to seal and the lifter has no hydrualic pressure leading to the *tappity tap*
MBL8 with it's molybdenuim disulphipe (sp!) seals the plate and removes the *tappity tap*
Best results are achieved by MBL8 and a VERY slow idle for 10 minutes or so.

I thank you all sincerely for your helpful advice. I will try the local Mitsi dealer.

mugenb20b, Dec 20, 7:30pm
It's not cheap by the way.

bjdw, Dec 20, 7:37pm
Repco started stocking it recently

tonyrockyhorror, Dec 20, 8:20pm
But worth every cent.

jandah, Dec 20, 8:29pm
I got some yesterday for my daughters Mitsi 1600 DOHC with noisy tappets.
Awesome stuff. However do shop or ask around. My local Mazda dealer has it for $55, some Mitsi dealers sell it by the shot of 75mls for $20 and Ripco sell it for $77,I picked my bottle up for $40 at a lonely little garage in Tauranga, and our local franchiser/supplier offered it to me for $62.50.

There is a far better product made by mitsubishi motors themselves available at any mitsubishi dealer marketed as a "oil treatment" part number JCMZ106001EX its better and cheaper then proma MBL8

alan1111, Dec 21, 5:22am
ProMa is the best product on the market i have been using it for years.I suggest you do a engine flush 1st and put it in with new oil.You need to spend about 5 minutes shaking it 1st. How i use it is premix it with clean oil 1st in a container then pour it in the engine. Run the engine for about 20 minutes to get good circulation. I only put in 1/2 bottle as is expensive stuff seems to work for me and my customers.
It use to be only available to workshops but Ross Hooks the person who owns the company here in NZ has sold made it available to the public via Repco stores grrr.

rovercitroen, Dec 21, 6:07am
You can get it through Ross Hooks or the Broomfish Motoring store sells it online. It really is a great product. Their PT5 petrol treatment is good too and I know a couple of truckies who swear buy the Pro-Ma DT5 diesel additive too.

rovercitroen, Dec 21, 6:09am
Just reading through this thread.Repco looks very expensive. Broomfish is only $41 per bottle. This will do 3 x 4 cylinder engine oil changes.

skull, Dec 21, 6:18am
Is this the sort of product you put in the oil as a preventative measure or do you use it only if necessary!

johnf_456, Dec 21, 7:15am
One of the few additives that actually does work

rovercitroen, Dec 21, 7:40am
Yes. Absolutely. Preventative also.

bmwnz, Dec 21, 7:42am
Many thanks. I have ordered it through Broomfish (thanks rovercitroen). I really appreciate all your input. You are all a great local resource and a wealth of useful information. $45.60 delivered to my door.
