What you mean you have to follow the two second rule rather than be sniffing the exhaust pipe of the vehicle in front!

fryan1962, Dec 23, 8:36am
I think it is here for good

thejazzpianoma, Dec 23, 8:36am
Those familiar with a concept called mathematics would understand that this was based on the 2 second rule.

thejazzpianoma, Dec 23, 8:37am
Only if we let it.

romulan7, Dec 23, 8:41am
Not what you was saying and open to interpretation

"each check of the speedometer reduces your effective following distance by a quarter"

But then again how many do actually keep a correct following distance!

romulan7, Dec 23, 8:43am
Good luck with that!Complain about the revenue collecting yet contribute to the revenue collecting by ignoring a limit based on you thinking its wrong.

fryan1962, Dec 23, 8:45am
they will collect revenue there will be less accident they will scream what a success it has been

thejazzpianoma, Dec 23, 8:48am
I said my math was based on half a second, half a second is a quater of 2 seconds. I've had a couple of wines and my pills yet still I can work that one out!

Woooohoooo double rainbow!

thejazzpianoma, Dec 23, 8:51am
This is a real problem too, this speed campaign stupidity of the last few years has co-ensided with the biggest increase in safety vehicles have ever seen. Remember it takes a while for the vehicles of the safety revolution which started a decade ago to filter through and become the mainstay of our fleet.

romulan7, Dec 23, 8:52am
To be honest less accidents.correction crashes.is the idea behind it.Given the cost of a road crash ismuch higher than the percieved revenue collection then yes it is a success.Face the facts cleaning up a crash is not cheap.

Reread the OPs post I dont see it being critical of the speedlimit on that stretch of road.

romulan7, Dec 23, 8:57am
This coming from someone who has to drive with cruise control set probably in an automatic rather than using calculated pressure on a pedal.

That must be so annoying to be forced to disengage cruise control for slower traffic and lower speed limits.Have you forgotten how to drive!

thejazzpianoma, Dec 23, 9:10am
You really don't know much about me do you LOL!

We have a couple of vehicles capable of brown trousering even very competent and experienced drivers if they are not used to them.

romulan7, Dec 23, 9:17am
I know what you post and expand on that.

If you are such a skillfull driver then you should not be having so much trouble with the revenue collectors and as such have very little to worry about.

wrong2, Dec 23, 7:56pm
that is insulting to say the least

"if you are a good driver - it shouldnt matter what inanity the govt tries to enforce on you"

i dont care that your fed up with people on your 70 km/h area - that we need to be forced to slow down another 10 km/h in areas that are not unsafe at 120 is ludicrous

these measures are not based on anything execpt the idea that speed kills - & the end result is in increasing the frustration of driving

we are continuing to have a focus on speed because the government is desperate for MONEY

thejazzpianoma, Dec 23, 8:21pm
+1 Beautifully said!
The road toll is in really good shape. What we need now is flexible "maintenance" for our road Policing, with attention to all facets of bad/illegal driving. Someof the extra resources can then be put on to reducing crime and saving lives in other areas.

romulan7, Dec 23, 8:33pm
Thats was not insulting in the least just you consider it to be.

Fight it out and twist the words to how ever you want it the ops statement was that a section of road had been reduced to 90kph and the traffic was actually flowing smoother.

If traffic flows smoother that means less risk of a nose to tail.Your deluded that if there is a medium or heavy traffic flow on the road that it is ok for you to go faster than the speedlimit or traffic flow with causing a crash, either directly or indirectly.

90kph on that section of the road is likely to be the best solution given that with the exception of Cars any HT, Bus or Trailered vehicle IS LIMITED to 90kph.Given the traffic flow will include a high number of those vehicles then 90kph seems reasonable. But then again many of those cars will actually have errors on there speedo to allow them to think they are doing 100kph.
Logic would say that the cops wont need to police this because those motorists will only put their brakes on to drop another 10kph and in turn disrupt the traffic flow.

The fact you feel it is safe to travel a stretch of road at 120kph is irrellevant and you were permitted that licence to drive on the roads by agreeing to abide by the posted speedlimits.

You dont like it tough!Take it to the race track while your on a road with other road users keep to the limit. Is it that hard really!

cuda.340, Dec 23, 8:53pm
had to drive that road again last night. only wish i could have driven 90kph. some blimin nana's were cruising at 65 leaving hundereds of meters gaps in front of them & as per usual sped up to 90 in the passing lanes. from pokeno to coro turn off 1 hr 20 mins! arghhhhhhhhh! that used to take 45-50 mins with heavy traffic in the past. definately will not use that road on the busy days.

wrong2, Dec 23, 10:08pm
cuda, people who leave a gap need to be applauded. the amount of people who follow closely yet dont overtake is maddening. it makes it harder for the rest of us who are not afraid of the accellerator to get past
ignoring the rest of your "i love to travel slowly" speel, the above is wrong - most car speedo's are set to read higher, not lower than the actual car speed

romulan7, Dec 23, 10:56pm
Actually if you read another post whuich I can not be bothered to link to I said about Car speedometer accuracy and that response you highlighted was recognising that fact that most read over the actual speed.

Now as for your "I love to drive slowly" speel.Far from the truth I travel at the speed of the vehicles I drive within the limitations of the speedlimts, vehicle capability and conditions on the road so imposed.

There are few things I could tell you about my driving skill set that would not be suitable for this public messegeboard or understood by many. And yes there are a few places where I question the placement of speedlimits and road design.
End of day keeps me and my passengers safe if I go according to the limitations imposed!

cuda.340, Dec 23, 11:49pm
no these people should be shot or banned from the roads. they should maintain the speed limit within 10% & if possible keep up with the flow of traffic, not reduce the speed & create a hold up which angers drivers & makes them do stupid overtake manouvers which are likely to cause accidents. the 2 sec rule is good enough but to create a 42 sec rule with ever increasing gaps is just pure stupidity, especially when they decide to speed up at the passing lane so you get trapped behind them AGAIN.
last nights trip along that road was infuriating, the cars that held up traffic were late model & not towing anything, no excuse for holding up traffic apart from the fact they are fwits on nz roads. they should be ticketed for being a road menace just like the speedsters.

romulan7, Dec 24, 1:58am
Once again it comes down not just to driver training but commonsense and the rarest of commodity "Courtesy".

Courtesy would be that if you look in your mirror (yes apparently thats also required) that you pull to the side and allow faster flowing traffic to pass IF your speed is excessively slow.

It amazes me how frustrated some Kiwi drivers get!In comparison to european roads summer driving is pretty laid back and cruisy.

cuda.340, Dec 24, 2:50am
in the UK you are not allowed to cruise in the fastlane on the motorways. THAT is a Brilliant idea. we were cruising up the M1 to Scotland in our rental Peugeot at 90 mph, thought we were the sh!t, an XJS past us like we were stationary, thats how our roads should operate.
in NZ the rear view mirror is an accessory that you only use when reversing, someone should invent a retnal scanner that requires eye contact from the driver every 30 seconds or you get a shock thru the streering wheel just to train up drivers.

bashfulbro, Dec 24, 3:59am
true Tony very true

wrong2, Dec 24, 6:25am
well i end up doing a fair bit of overtaking

the people who follow close just help to cause even longer lines than otherwise should be imo

because they combine following close with an aversion to overtaking. so all the people behind them now have 2 cars to pass. when they sit close behind a truck its even worse

people should be leaving a gap for overtakers to slot into

wrong2, Dec 24, 6:28am
it follows the retard mentality

as in "you people are not trusted to have a working brain, or even open eyeballs"

muppet apologists (like yourself) just love to have a million laws so personal responsibility & culpability can be argued out of existence within a legal framework
