Honest mistake or . !

puslek, Feb 14, 10:13am
This is really annoying so I thought I share it with you all.
Yesterday we parked at a parking building. On our way out my wife got no more cash so she pulled $20 bill from our boy's Chinese new year gift. So there's no mistake that it was a $20 bill. We gave the money to the lady at the booth which then she gave us a change as if we gave her $10, so my wife told her it was $20. The lady immediately yell at us, no! it was $10!. We had an argument for a bit but there was another car waiting behind us and my wife basically told me to let it go, it was only $10, let her eat it.
After we left we realised that we didn't even get a receipt.
Anybody got similar experience!

I have, a Simple letter, or talk to management will fix this issue in most cases, just make sure you can point out which lady you dealt with

I thought about making a complain heaps yesterday, but without any prove it would just be our words against hers. I just gonna be real careful before handing out my money next time.

ginga4lyfe, Feb 14, 10:34am
well hey, youcan either complain to them and get something out of it, or maybe not get anything out of it, or you can sit around not complain and not get a definite answer about the situation, id rather go and complain, you got better odds doing so about getting results

puslek, Feb 14, 10:40am
You're right. I'll just do that now.

puslek, Feb 14, 10:44am
Yes, good point.

I've sacked a couple of cash handlers in my day. The management will appreciate the heads up, even if it turns out to be a mistake. If it was a mistake, she should have offered a till balance once the queue was clear. Takes time, but keeps it all above board.

Yesterday I had a fleamarket to sell off abit of household stuff,a person bought something for $2 and gave me $10, I got them $8 change and when I gave it to them they said "I'm sure I gave you $20", luckily I still had the $10 note in my hand.I was always taught to never put the money in till until you have given change.

gmnshprd, Feb 14, 10:52am
Definately complain, and her till should be $10.00 up - unless she pocketed it!

ginga4lyfe, Feb 14, 10:53am
Doesnt always work if you are dealign with large amounts of money. or the slight of hand.

puslek, Feb 14, 10:54am
I think she was well prepared because she said something about 'there's no $20 bill lying around here!'.

richardmayes, Feb 14, 10:58am
Yes you should complain bitterly.

Either that person made an honest mistake (quite possible, as they aren't always the smartest of people doing that job) or else they are blatantly lying and stole your $10.

Either way it is very poor form. Go get em.

puslek, Feb 14, 10:59am
I think I remember years ago when I work at burger king to count and say the amount of money we received from the customer before putting it away.

puslek, Feb 14, 11:14am
Couldn't find the address of the management, so I'll just post a mail to the building, addressed to the management.

I remember at McDonalds once and I put $20.00 on the counter to pay for about $8.00 worth of food. I turned around to talk to my brother behind me and when looked back the $20.00 was gone. I waited for my change only to be asked to pay again. I stated that I gave $20.00 but the person denyed seeing it.
I then suggested they look at the camera footage to prove I was right (since I saw a camera pointing towards me). Funny enough they said they couldn't because it wasn't working. It peeved me off as I had to pay again (which now meant I paid $28.00 for $8.00 of food).

I have NEVER been back to Linwood McDonalds (Chch) again. I find it more than a coincidence that the camera wasn't working that day and that money on the counter simply disappears.

I can't believe you went through with the purchase!

nzmax, Feb 14, 8:05pm
Id complain, if it wasnt an honest mistake, then take your $10 and times that by 10 other people she has possibly done it too in the same day.makes for a great daily bonus at her end.

Reminds me of a chick at a lotto shop, I won $20 on a scratchy and when I got my usual pick of the week I handed over the scratchy to which she ripped up and stuck under the counter, I said that was a winner and she said it wasn't, a friend that worked at that lotto shop turned up for the chick to go on her break, I mentioned it to the friend that I'm sure the scratchy had 3 of the same icons and she grabbed the torn bits and she scracthed off a bit more stuff and entered some numbers and bingo.I won $20!, the young girl ended up getting the boot cause I wasn't the only she tried that stunt on, she was apparently pocketing the winnings.

You were in a good opportunity, I would have turned the car off and sat there until she paid up.

i had the same thing at a bar, gave what i thought was a 20 and she gave me change for a 10 so after a short but abrupt argument i started to dought myselfand left the bar and went back to my motel room where my wife was and asked her because she had just been to the cash machine and got a hundy all in 20s so there was no chance i could have given a tenner because i didnt have one. can only laugh it off now but will be vigilent from now on grrrr

Yes yes yes. I know, I am kicking myself now.
