I want to add a seccond carburetor to my car and was woundering if i needed a cert. the car is a 2ltr ford cortina mk 3

so you want to add a set of twin sides or another downy to it!in stead of the downy!
NO cert required unlesss you have to modify the structure of the car from what i understand - someone who deals with it daily should be able to verify but i have seen many many fiats and lancias and minis have twin side draughts added etc and not needed certs

I'm probably going to be proven wrong, but if you have to modify the fuel delivery system at all (Extra/different hoses) or 20% power increase will be the two things you could get pulled up on. As to whether a WOF inspector notices or not is a different story

From memory my Mk 3 was cross flow - if yours is too then go ahead but if the uppy downy version of Ford engine i found them hopeless when extra impetus put through them as they couldn't handle the jandal cos of the heat of the intake being directly above exhaust etc
Someone will no doubt say what utter tripe but that is what i observed in my own Mk3 and Escorts - crossflow GOOD,uppy downy BAD lol
