Some will say they are good, but the V6 engines are rubbish. The late model turbo diesels have superb power, and handle very well. However, I've seen plenty of Freelanders with oil leaks at very low mileages that take out alternators because of it. Some had problems with automatic transmissions too. When buying a new Freelander, they don't come with mudflaps, that's extra as well as many other features no doubt.

As a general rule, one of the worst POS vehicles ever built. Mechanically, electrically .everything. Sure, some people have good runs out of them, but these are rare examples.
Best advice is to forget you ever heard the name.
