It's worth it if it's already in the vehicle and if you have a Rockgas card to buy it with.Pump price can vary a lot and is significantly dearer than the direct price.I'm currently paying $1.09 per litre (Incl GST) on the Rockgas card.Conversion costs can be fairly expensive, so it tends to take a while for payback of the installation now, unless you do very high kms.If you're planning on keeping the vehicle for a long time though and are a high mileage driver, it would still be of benefit to look into it.

If the car checks out OK, I would go for it.With those sorts of kms you will love LPG, but do get a Rockgas card to get it at the cheaper rate. The other good thing about LPG is that it is a lot kinder to the engine than petrol is, and the engine should hopefully be in excellent nick, depending on how long the LPG has been in the car. It's way better on cold starts and when the engine is cold as it doesn't wash the oil off the cylinder bores like petrol does. Also, provided you use good quality oil and filter, your distance between oil changes can be doubled no problems at all. With the sort of kms that you are doing, I'd be seriously looking at an LPG car.

At 7.5 ks to the litre i would say you true cost for 750 kms would be around $110 on the rockgas card.

Those figures are very similar to what we get in our 3 litre Toyota Mark 2, and with the kms that you would be doing it will save you around the $3K a year on petrol. We've just ticked over 10 years on LPG (did our first tank retest at the end of last year) and I'd never go back to just petrol if I didn't have to.In that time have done approx. 270,000 kms spread over 2 cars (I transferred the kit from one car to another about 6 years ago). The current car is now up to 245,000 kms (changed it over to LPG at 100Kms) and it's as good as the day I bought it.I run it on full synthetic oil which I change at approx. 20K intervals now instead of the previous 10K intervals.Go for it!

Depends how you look at it Toysky - you can't really compare an 1800 to a 3 litre. If the 1800 was on LPG it would be substantially cheaper than on petrol, but in your straight comparison on just the cost only of the fuel it simply means that you do not want a 3 litre. If you want the 3 litre, you have to compare the cost of the 3 litre on petrol versus the cost of the 3 litre on LPG.Our car consistently runs at around 63% of the cost of petrol for the SAME car.

As an example, if I was to drive the same number of kms a year as you do, in LPG it would cost me (In rounded figures) approx. $5670.If I used only petrol for exactly the same no. of kms, it would cost me around $8970 (the car uses 95 octane). So a saving of $3300 per year or about 8.5 cents per km.Plus double the servicing intervals and a very clean engine in good nick from a clean burning fuel.I prefer the bigger car, and I can operate the larger car for the same fuel cost as a smaller one.

Thanks for your input Kimbo it all makes sense What I,m trying to do is knock 30 odd bux off my fuel bill a week , not sure if its possible.

You might be best to drop down to a good 1500cc car perhaps - that would probably achieve your drop in costs but you would just have to readjust to the lesser power. The Corollas with the 1500 engines are very economical, in some cases down to 5.6 litres per 100 kms or so.That would probably achieve the fuel savings that you are wanting I would think.

Easily done, though youll probably not like it. Raise the right foot an inch or so. Simple.

I run my BBQ on it and it's all good! Ran it last saturday for 9 hours at 120 sausages per hour for around $26. (was not empty when I refilled though)

Another option Toysky in view of the large mileage you do - if you like the car that you have got and intend to hang onto it a fair while, would be to look around for a good suitable second hand LPG kit and have it installed. While there would be a pay-back period for the installation, you would then have the cheaper running further down the track. An excellent option if keeping the car long term.
