If its been continuously registered since before the rule change (which is what the seller is saying) then it'll still get wofs. Looks like a cool car.

It is a factory 2.0 litre sport . They assembled them in australia . Its a factory car so doesnt need a cert .

cant see any evidence that it was an Aussie build! more likely a NZ dealer mod which was quite common back then! and it wont need a cert!,if thats the case

That vehicle is not Australian assembled, it was assembled at Wiri, the chassis number confirms that, although I suspect that one of the letters he has posted is incorrect. The only sports variant of the Escort as such sold in Australia was of course the RS2000, which was essentially a Mk2 2 or 4 door shell with a Cortina spec 2.0 engine in it, and the plastic dual headlamp nosecone, GL and Ghia variants were also 2.0 litre, instead of 1.6 or 1.3.The engine number in that car corresponds to that of a Seaview assembled MK5 Cortina sedan built December '82, so clearly it was not what it was originally sold with. There is no cert issue with that particular car given its registration details, I'd have to say its anything but a pristine and well presented example of a Mk2 sport.

I dont think it is factory 2.0, I had one & there are quite a few differences including extra strengthening panel at the top of the strut towers (which this doesnt have) but theres also an extra sill panel which isnt too clear in the pics but by the look of it doesnt have either

Hmmm. Not convinced it is a genuine 2ltr Escort but I wonder if it is a genuine "dealer" 2ltr Escort. I have seen this done at Ford dealers in the past where they modify a brand new Escort into a bit of a "race spec" toy. Usually it was done for a good customer or the dealership boss. This stuff was common practice back in the day.

you can change anything on the rego papers at will. my car says its a Mazda when its actually a Eunos. you can change the colour on the rego papers so why not engine size.

Not engine cc ratings you can't, ditto actual vehicle descriptions that appear on the rego papers/license labels. The only way you can do that is by a signed letter from the manufacturer or from an official agent verifying that the original details were incorrect for whatever reason, and what they should be. (good luck with that one!)You'd have every genital manipulating idiot claiming their ex taxi 3.3L XY Fairmont was a GTHO and every R32 Skyline with the factory yawnfest RB20E was a Godzilla.NZTA aren't quite that stupid.
