Its the KM's + Auto that potentially put a dampner on it. but like others said for the right price.
I would use this as a yardstick for good value in that sort of thing 348678051. (I realise its not quite the same but gives a good idea of bang for buck)
Also. perhaps it is worth a little more given your location!
I would suggest having the ECU scanned before you purchase if you can get it done cheaply. Cambelt is fairly easy to do on those but allow for it if due, remember to check it on age as well as km's.
If its a good well maintained one it could be a very nice car for very little coin, just make sure its a goodun!

If its tidy and has service history it should be alright, just dont expect the trans to last for ever, if the cambelt hasnt been done do it because if they break it will bend/break valves

Not really a case of still 1.8. Its the (new at the time) 1.8 Turbo. The MK3 GTI had the 2 litre the MK4 GTI (which this will be) has the 1.8 Turbo.
Both are great wee engines.

By bang for your buck are you talking about when it explodes!

Isn't the badge (GTX or GTI I mean) pretty much market dependent!

I would pay. Nuffink!

GTX had an all leather interior, GTI had cloth recaro seats, personally I'd prefer the leather, otherwise the motor etc were the same

Make sure you drive it first, I think you'd be way better off forking out the extra for a manual one.

GTX was for jap market, same 1.8t engine and has leather but auto only = fail

Personally the only decent gti;s were the mk1.mk2 then the mk5, 3 and 4 are crap
