And coming back. WTF don't they close off the passing lanes!
All of a sudden, crawling for 45 mins for no reason but the need to merge due to a passing lane. Who the heck is running that stretch of road!

Been doing that trip for 20 years now (family) I recall many a time when the passing lanes have been closed while revamping the road. Always kept the flow going, odd they didn't do it today.

you gotta have the passing lanes open. if they reduce the speed limit to 90kph then the idiots that cruise at 85kph now have to slow down to 75. d'oh!

Was at a standstill before Maramarua Golf course all the way to the other side (heading back to Auck) for no reason bar the passing lane. After that back to 90km.

As a comparison. I came back this morning along that stretch of road Never once did I have reason to slow down. This stretch of road really has me scratching my head. I get the concern in that it has an aparently deserved reputation as a killer stretch of road. (high crash area) but what I really honestly dont understand is why! -its not a difficult road to drive at any point. Heck over the "hills" into Tauranga was a lot more of a challenge in bad weather

That Katikati-Tauranga section is hideous. Road planner need to get the idea that not all of us like to spend our time being held up by a (whatever) crawling over hills.

the reason is plain.tax collection, have you not noticed !, it`s not just there, its all over the place, up north too, certain stretches ofroadthat are normally 100 km limits are suddenly being signposted at 80kms, accompanied by plenty of cameras, disguised in people movers, vans,cars etc, if you think it is even,remotely to do with road safety, you deluded.
