To trade up or not - oh great ones.

Have been given some money from my deceased grandmother, hubby says I should use it to replace my car. but I like my car. decided to ask those in the know ie you people, what you think.

I have a 95 Suzuki Cultis 4 door hatch.Runs well, no rust, have replaces power steering cable, the cable behind it (can't remember what it was), needs the cables that control the power windows in both front doors (not urgent -or so I have been told) is generally clean and tidy.

What are your thoughts please and thank

The shops are only half the thrill. lived there for a year and haven't seen a couple of friends for 10 plus years. on the dream.

My thoughts are.if your car is a bit like your husband.maybe lovable.a little rough around the edges.but reliable and you love him like your little car."love on the motoring mb" phffftt! lol
Then do as you would for him, give him a wash, wax him,fix up the saggy non performing parts lol and love it a bit longer.
If it aint broke dont fix it and maintain.
Good luck with your decision.

Well no one knows how much coin she has got. Could be 5k could be 50k.
Your car is 16 years old and sounds like its starting to cost you some dollers. Might be reliable and all but if it starts to become a money pit you may regret keeping it in the long run. Sure a newer car may (will) loose valuebut hey what doesnt. The computer you are typing on is now prob worth SFA from its purchase price as is you TV, fridge , washing machine and so on.
Can you afford a new car when your current one dies (it may not) in the future.
If you want a newer car go for it. Holidays are great but there just memorys and trinkets and digital photos you may never look at agian. Least a car will get well used and you see it every day and serves a purpose.
Thats my 37 cents worth.

Thanks for all your thoughts. well most of them. just for the record - I am not old, don't have any saggy bits -yet- don't need a facelift (would be too chicken to even if I did) and yes hubby would be at home kid-sitting. you guys make me smile, for that I thank you.Gun, your 37c are noted and yes my car is really well used. maybe I should take it to a reliable machanic, get him or her to give ita really good once over and recommend. in guess in all honesty, I don't like to make decisions and want someone to do it for me. smiles to you all.

I would say definitely update, your car is a death trap, you would be 10 times more likely to survive in a newer car, get a new or 2nd hand Swift with Air bags, ABS etc. Life is more important than holidays or money. One of the reasons I updated was safety, now I am in one of the safest on the road.

I think anyone who was killed in a car crash thought the same way.won't happen to me.

moosie_21, Feb 20, 7:13pm
If it doesn't happen, sweet. If you do die, do you really care! You're dead.

bigracket, Feb 20, 7:24pm
LOLTrue all the same.

elvis58, Feb 20, 7:54pm
Do you not walk on the street, ride a bike, or a motorbike! All this accident hype was dreamed up by someone trying to profit from it, bottom line is cars were never designed to be crashed into each other, when your times up, it's up!

IMO Dont trade up instead invest the money in either silver or gold, and keep it at home in a safe
