MIG Welder Owner Bottle

I'm in the Manawatu. I have been paying BOC through the nose for Argonshield bottle rental for years. I am looking at the option of owning my own bottle but want to know if it is worth it and is practical given I live in Palmerston North . meaning as far as I am aware - BOC is the only game in town and they will not fill someone elses bottles. Who's in Palmy, owns their own bottle and how do you get it filled up etc! Ta.

I sympathise. Cant help, but got caught many yeasr ago with the old NZIG Oxy and Acet. bottles - rented them formany years (25+) and probably paid for them over and over. Should have bought right at the start and put up with the slight inconvenience of having to muck around while they were filled. Supposedly they overhauled the rentals but a mate who worked at NZIG told me they got a simple test and if they passed that they got filled and sent out again.

You may find out of town for fills is fine if you do what I did. I went to supagas and got a 10 certed Huge bottle of argoshield full and ready to rock for $600. Because its such a big one not only does it last a long time (years for me) but it costs about the same to fill as one half the size because the gas is at a cheaper rate for larger volume.

The question is, if it lasts a couple of years do you need to fill it locally!

Thanks. It turns out Supagas has a dealer they work through in Palmy. I will go and talk to them about owning my own bottle. Fuk BOC's rental charges. Cheers.

Been through it all before! they are fu*king rip off di*kheads at BOC in Palmy your cheapest/easyest option is go to Air Liquide they are like $50 cheaper per bottle(well for the second largest size CO2 anyway) than BOC! there shop is at 5 Conolly Place off JFK drive in Milson PH:(06) 355 5216.
For my home mig I normaly only use 1 bottle a year and its $122 including rental and the fill for a year.
