Here is a odd one about Regestering

Right a mate tells me a guy has a daihatsu charade he wants to get rid off with a few things wrong but good condition.
So i go ther eand look at it. windscreen cracked, ok no problem . engines mainshaft ballancer pully worn out and cant be fixed easy . i think ok a bit more tricky but doable. then i look at the windscreen. It is a diesel and i ask the guy where is the road user charge.
He said it never had any i imported it and regod it as petrol as i dont want to pay ruc. I go and say sorry mate i am no longer interested to purchase your car. he barbels on how it be easy and the cops have stoped him often and never said a thing about ruc and the wof also was never a problem.
I just told him sorry mate i am thinking otherwise, If i was to buy this then either you will be going to court for fraud or i will have to recomply it as it is not a diesel its a petrol acording to the papers.

How old! Must have had a mate doing the compliance, it's not like you can just tick 'petrol' and that's the end of it.

Have you looked it up! Just as likely is that's it's diesel on the system and waay behind.

Very dodgy. Might pay to take some steps----big ones in the other direction

That vehicle must have been first registered in NZ a long long time ago, and been looked at by very negligent WOF inspector(s) since then, WOF online would have brought this to their attention as you have to state what fuel its running when every WOF is entered. There would have to have been some collusion going on here.

exactly thats why i walked away it be a right nightmare and ruc gets passed on to the next poor sod.
and no i did not look it up i did not even note the numberplate as it was all over for me it was worth 0 when i found out what he had suposedly done. Its on hold since 2006 i hink and its about a 91 model.

i brought a van once that had a petrol engine in it at the time. Long story short it turned out the previous owner brought it with a diesel, converted it to a petrol engine and didnt do anything regarding certifying etc. So i buy it and about a month later get a bill for $4500 owing in backpay of ruc. i got him to pay in the end but just food for thought

run away!

Friend bought a wrecked diesel to fix up and got whacked for a grand of RUC from the previous owners of it. The system sucks.

Bought a 82 sigma years back off a uk women who had had it for several years, it was diesel too and had never had any RUC'S. Show's it happens, wonder how many more there are!
