I have a Nissian X trail that has started using oil. Still has plenty of get up and go. I suspect oil is getting in via the top end. Does anyone have any ideas. Interested in what people think about trying oil conditioners/flushes and also if anyone has information on which oil is best for these

If oil is getting in through the top end (valve stem seals) it is usual for the motor to blue smoke on start-up or when you first put foot on accelerator after coastingdown a hill. Car you smell burnt oil inside the cab!Has it lost power especially when hot! Have you ever had it overheat! Any sign of oil in radiator water!

It does smoke on start up, and blows slightly blue, however doesn't puff the blue after the coast. Stillstarts fine, and pulls well. oil smells fine. I removed the cap and blocked off the tappet cover vent and placed hand over the oil filler to see if blow by was pressuring the crank case. It actually still had a vacum and could feel hand sucking in. All things lead me to beleive the compression side of engine is working well, but oil is getting into the combustion somewhere. Either the valve guide seals have hardened or broken, or the oil control rings have gotten gummed upand allowed oil to pass by. Ihave seen on diesel engines where wrong ash content in oil have cased this. So has anyone had success with oil conditioners revivving valve seals, or flushes freeing up the rings. The conncern with the flush for me is it will free up deposits thru-out the engine and whilst freeing the rings will damage it elsewhere

And radiator water is fine, clean and clear with anti-freeze with nosigns of bubbles or water loss

i was going to ask what oil you were using, some oils will burn off, some wont.
for example a couple of people i know used a fuchs oil, 10-30 in their vtec honda's a few years ago and they started using oil, changed to something else and it stopped.
(assuming in 2004 they were still using the SR20 engine) i'll also get in before anyone suggests thicker oil, this is not a good idea in an SR engine.
