Have we lost the plot!

Would I be wrong to presume that the motoring message boards were intended for those with a passion for all things motoring!

Reading the many threads, the bickering, the banning, the reporting of various contributors makes me think perhaps I am wrong!

The way I see it the motoring forum SHOULD be a place to discuss all things motoring in a mature way. We may not all see eye to eye on different cars or topics but ultimately we share the same passion.

Let me give an example. Some time ago I read a thread where someone was questioning what fuel usage could reasonably be expected from a certain model of SS Commodore and whether there were other large sedans with performance that might be suitable. That thread quickly degenerated into a b!tch fight with the inevitable comments of performance cars being a substitute for smaller male appendages and various other nonsense, none of it even remotely relevant to the original question asked. Why! What purpose other than to make a nuisance of themselves did these contributors make!

What is lost through all of this is a multitude of people with useful vehicle specific knowledge across all areas of the motoring spectrum. Those are the people who simply bugger off and get on with life - the rest of us however are the ones who lose. We are the ones who find there is nobody left with half an ounce of useful knowledge.

So, with all due respect might I suggest that if you do not have anything useful to contribute, have no meaningful questions to ask and do not have a genuine interest in motoring then you are in the wrong place. Click the back button on your browser a couple of times, select one of the other forums on offer (perhaps opinions & politics might suit you) and save your dribble for someone who is interested in reading it.

Voted, just kidding. I feel you have said what a lot of us feel, well put.
No harm in a bit of humour though (o:

LOL, humour works and that is often lost in translation online.

do a skid

Because it is a forum of differing ideas and opinions.

Always has been.always will be.

Get used to it.

yeahm8, Jan 8, 5:19am
That's your perception, as long as this is a public forum and everyone has their own opinion then you can only offer your opinion on a subject, if you don't like other peoples remarks then don't read it yourself, as the poster said above "get use to it"

un_known, Jan 8, 7:35am
yeh everyone is entitled to their opinion but alot of posters here are simply trying to antagonize others and generally act like 3 year olds. Thats not expressing your opinion thats being an arrogant dick.

anyway opinions are like assholes, everybody has one and they should keep it to themselves

I agree and many just need to grow up, the bullying. Especially when one says something nice and they get dished rubbish.

Welcome to the internet.

bmwnz, Jan 8, 9:54pm
I have asked questions on here and been given very useful information. People here have given their expertise free of charge and I appreciate it. I have also lurked without posting and learnt much that way.

OTOH, when I've seen the less savoury posters have their hissy fits, I just don't go into those threads and let them bitch slap one another in peace.

You gotta take the good with the bad, try not to bait the trolls and try even harder not to become one of the trolls. I am pretty damn far from perfect, but I do find the motoring section to be one of the better parts of the TMMB

cowboy110, Jan 9, 12:03am
It's not just the motoring MB. I spend a bit of time in the farming MB and that has gone the same way.Sneaking in and out of the other messageboards on Trademe I've noticedthat those ones are no better. It just seems these days some people are not happy unless they're bitching and moaning about something.

fordcrzy, Jan 9, 12:43am
your grammer is shocking.

skull, Jan 9, 12:53am
Ditto your spelling.

cowboy110, Jan 9, 1:29am
My point exactly.

fordcrzy, Jan 9, 2:55am

i wondered if anyone would pick that up!

^ you the man^

mugenb20b, Jan 9, 3:01am
So, if someone asks for an opinion, we should just keep quiet and say nothing, right!

i-n-horz, Jan 9, 4:11am
HD.put that in a thread and the biggest can of feltching fluid is crack'd open.some you can explain to others are a lost cause that's just the way it is, to me the passion of motoring comes from within it's something that's been with you pretty much from day one in life and you can see the creation and it's function for what it is with understanding even though it may not be particularly suited to your needs or taste but you understand with respect.
Motoring to some is a vehicle in itself to belittle, abuse, disrespect or just plain b!tch, moan and argue for the sake of 'look at me,mines best' or 'to own that you'd have to be a toss' not worth paying attention to at all.just the way it is.

bmwnz, Jan 9, 5:43pm
I own & drive my car because I like it. It has nothing to do with how fast it goes (or not), how petrol miserly it is (or not) or what the possible re-sale could be (that never enters my equation & never has). It simply doesn't matter what anyone else thinks of it. We all have our likes and dislikes.

I just can't understand why some people here feel the need to attempt to belittle other's choices and preferences simply because they are different from their own. It must be such a delight living with them.

neville48, Jan 11, 1:41am
Thats right.pick on his grammer, she's probably sitting in front of the telly watching coro and knitting, minding her own business and you pick on her ! Thats what the OP is talking about .geez.

johnf_456, Sep 5, 5:57pm
can't be said any better
