There is more than the battery missing, the voltage regulator, which attaches to the side of the battery box on those 2 bolts and plugs into the larger of the connectors, is missing, and what ever plugs into those other connectors are also missing. What they are I am not sure.

On second look at the photos, the two female bullet connectors look like the connectors for the brake lamp switch.

Skippy, I think Robinm is on the money. Voltage regulators can be bought second hand for anything from $50 upwards, and you dont have to get one thats make/model/year/ specific etc, they are largely interchangeable. Starter solenoids arent usually too much either, last time I bought one for a bike, I got a brand new one, for about $110. again, could be sourced cheaper seconds hand.
My only question would be where is the regulator and why is it missing completely. When regulators give up, it can sometimes also have affected the stator as well, which is less of an easy fix. They can sometimes be 'rewound' though, I think this costs around the $200-$300 mark. Not saying it IS the case, but its likely/possible.
