The grade system is ranking the car, the exterior is done with numbers and most would only suggest buying a 4 or higher, the interior is done with letters mainly A, B and C. I think FA means Factory auto and some Auctions have F5 which I assume is factory 5 speed but i'm not 100% sure.

IIRC, Grade 5 is a new car - so in theory, you'd be better off with a higher number (and you'd usually pay more).

Sorry Kaz you are out on this one! Grade 5 is Very good overall condition. A car doesn't need repair. No body parts have been changed. Grade 6 is As good as new. Age till 36 months.Grade S is As good as new. Some cars in these grades have never been driven. Age till 12 months. And as for bodywork codes W1 means Repaint. As new condition. If a car is marked with one X it meansA body part which needs to be replaced. If it as two X's it means A body part which has been replaced. Hope this helps eagles9999.

Thanks all. It does seem that there are differences in the grading from auction house to auction house. I've also been told that R1 and RA1 can be repaired.

just keep an eye on those bloody emission standard codings. The pricks at parliament on their 120k+ salaries want us not so well off folk to carry on driving out existing pieces of non-eco friendly shit for another few years until cars that DO meet the emissions standards they have set are affordable again.

by the time you allow for all the privilages even a backbencher is getting closer to 200k and then when you look at actual worktime vs actual viable outcome.well no thats just 2 upsetting

and then theres talk that at the end of this year the emission code is going to eliminate most pre 04 jap imports there by increasing the value once more on all that old crap currently on the road
