paynta1, Feb 26, 4:40pm
anyone go to the hampton downs today, what was it like, thinking of going tommorow

welshdude, Feb 26, 4:47pm
The title puts me off. Chrome = weight. Not racing cars.

lookoutas, Feb 26, 5:03pm
So you don't know what a Muscle Car is!

1nvestor, Feb 26, 5:10pm
chrome = real cars
not plastic crap.
racing cars = suzuki swifts ! toyota open wheelers !

bill-robinson, Feb 26, 5:40pm
Yes, first thing you do with a muscle car is take the CHROME bumpers off. makes it a lot faster.

paynta1, Feb 26, 6:08pm
AH and the question was !

townie55, Feb 26, 7:53pm
The race car here at home has 10 out of 10 chrome on straight bumpers - on a muscle car.Don't you know the bling makes it go much faster.

talked to some guys from Bay Rodders tonite at Meremere's night of thunder. they said they weren't impressed with the show so decided to come to the drags instead. that to me was a big statement considering they were Bay Rodder members. thats a staunch hot rod club.

paynta1, Feb 27, 8:04am
Yeah,it is.I the wife drove past yesterday and didnt look that many there, also coming home from Hamilton at 3 lots cars going towards me on there way home, lots more action at the drags

Sounds to me as it might have been a financial disaster then!Oh dear.Paying out for high profile bands etc without a guaranteed income is risky atthe best of times.

May have been better if run as a race meeting featuring muscle cars or V8s with the display and music as side issues. At least the racers would have paid an entry fee in advance.Static shows are a waste of a race track.

Lol.Yes we are.We didnt go to chrome but word has it.Saturday was not good.Drags were tho.wish we have raced instead of waking up today with a slight hangover.

welshdude, Feb 27, 8:40pm
Yes, those are the three ton dinosaurs that are regularly embarrassed by a Broadspeed Mini.

twink19, Feb 28, 5:47am
that race win was pre arranged

We went for the weekend. Over 200 cars on display around the track on Sat, burnout comp, demostration races from classic muscle cars, Formula 5000 etc, We even got to do laps around Hampton Downs! Has the makings of a really good weekend but the cost of entry is way too high. People just don't want to pay $30-40 to get into a car event.

And yes we also went to Drags on Sat evening but to us that was just a bonus to a pretty good weekend.

Normally, Bernie's Broadspeed Mini doesn't race against the dinosaurs, so not too sure what you are referring to.We did clock the Broadspeed (replica - they only built 39, and this was a chopped Minisprint that couldn't get papers in NZ , so it was converted) at 129mph on a radar at Pukekohe a few years ago.It might even have just been blessed with a crossflow head but I haven't had that confirmed.

When the original Broadspeed Minis were produced, the race versions even then were claimed to be able to reach 130mph.

The organisers were pleased with the car turnout but I would agree that the entry fee for spectators was way too high for a static display and a type of music I'd personally run a mile from.
