Google can tell you this with it's built in intelligent calculator, just search for the words.
14.6 kilometers per liter in miles per us gallon or 14.6 kilometers per liter in miles per imperial gallon
Answer: 34.34 per US gallon, 41.24 per Imperial gallon

Multiply the kilometres by 0.6214 (km/mile) to get miles per litre = 9.0724 miles/litre. Multiply by 4.546 (litres/imp gallon) to get miles per gallon = 41.24 mpg QED

Mostly motorway driving in my 2006 Toyota Highlander for 11.0L / 100km. Drops to about 15L / 100km when 4 people, gear and boat trailer on the hook.

OP here .car is 1.8l auto corolla 2004, so I guess 41 or so mpg is pretty reasonable.

My apologies. Yes, good fuel consumption.

Read the OP again it states unless I'm half blind 14.6kms/litre and NOT 14.6litres/100km . Totally different kettle of fish. The correct fuel usage for litres and kilometers is actually expressed as number of litres used per every 100kilometers traveled as is used in Europe and other metric measurement countries. NOT the number of kilometers traveled for every litre. poppajn's expression is actually to correct one folks, the OP's expression is NOT and often causes confusion as is the case here.
