If you are looking for something thats going to have the least expenses in the next few years it will be the manual petrol Corona.

curlcrown, Jan 13, 10:35pm
1) no 2) good would have to be a realy good one for that price 3)worth about half the asking price.

edangus, Jan 13, 10:37pm
None of those for me thanks.

None personally for me either - though if the Camry was a bit cheaper I would consider that as from my experiences with these they go forever so this one is just run in. But not at that price.

astra = dont touch with 6ft barge pole

vista = do you really want a diesel turbo !

camry = highly rated by rac (aus version of aa) in their prime years, maybe a bit pricey but anything is negotiable.

Aviod Astra. Vista overpriced.
Camry if cam belt done recently:-
(2nd one due @180Km if the first one done @90Km)
Not many manuals around.
Offer them $4000 if belt done within last 20Km.

(Ask about rubbish around rocker cover looking very amateur!)

Of those 3, Camry is the best by far, when it comes to reliability, maintenance and running costs. They'll do 500 000 kms no problem (if looked after), and I believe they have 150 000 km cambelt change intervals (unlike Astra's 60 000). In having said that, the Astra is not bad to drive, they have firm seats, sit well on the road and have a reasonably nice looking interior.
The Vista is an old head cracking diesel, you don't need a diesel, and it's waaaaaaay overpriced.

Cam belt not an issue then!

Apparently, the V6 has a 150K interval but the 2.2 is (60miles) 90Km.

Make sure the cam belt has been done recently.

il just point out that toyota rates their genuine cambelts for 150,000km's , not 90 as falsely advised above.

toyota's belts used to be rated for 100,000 and they changed to 150,000. same part, just a higher rating.

richard198, Jan 14, 1:54am
OP had better hope a genuine Toyota belt was used.
Most workshops advise 90K.

dont discount the astra = goodmodel plus a manual makes it a nice car , good milage and later year than the other lot .
