Compression, fuel atomisation, pump settings.

You've done the atomisation, next (and cheap) thing is do a compression test.

runs well ,starts well ,does 150km ok just dies under load (wouldnt pull a hen of its nest) belches out black smoke with any load on it .

Well they will do that if the compression is down or the intake is blocked. Some may have a filter on the exhaust too. carbon filter they are, meant to be changed every so often. Cheapest thing though is to do a compression test first I reckon.

we still dont know what year it is and if its efi or upgight pump like the 80s model had.

if its got egr you rip the intake off and clean its ports and remove the crap. but be carfull if it is electronic crap it likely will throw then a check-engine light. loads things it could be untill we know what yearengine-number and what injector pump.
