holden dumping the epica after sales in australasia of 2000 units over 4 yrs, that wont please their bean counters to much. after they spent ALL that money slapping holden badges & hubcaps on a daewoo. hahaha

I wonder what they are going to replace it with, there's no indication of Holden selling the Opel Insignia in Australasia which is a shame because it's a damn fine car. Looks like the Cruze is catering for the mid-sized market vehicles perhaps.

replacement is a chev malibu fwd which is in itself a spin off of the old vectra.
BUT nz is likely to take all the existing stock of the epica from oz and dump it ,ooops , meant price it cheaper to clear here

well it really was a nothing car wasnt it,i mean it had no style and really was a mini commodore with nothing

As opposed to the Cruze, Captiva and Barinas!
I don't see why the Epica needs replacing anyway - especially not with the Malibu which itself is nearly as large as a Commodore

I saw a few of them running around Wellington. Just another mid-sized saloon car, not especially good looking, I don't know why anyone would buy one over the equivalent Toyota Honda or Mitsubishi.
If they put the V6 Commodore running gear into a compact 4-door saloon car, they would have something almost unique that car enthusiasts would flock to!

You know the Epica has a 2,5L 6-cylinder engine eh!

The reason they introduced it was to get a largish, cheapish diesel car to market.Sure they bought the petrol in too, but I'll bet the majority of the few sales it did make were diesels.

And it was a complete waste of time.No point to it if it didn't deliver better economy than a 3.6L Commodore.Even their dimmest of customers might have realised by now that they are buying Daewoo's at higher prices than what people would pay for them if they were actually sold as Daewoo's.

Yeah. 115kw's of pure yawn.

Yes. So near to being like a Triumph, and yet so far, far away!
cocabowla,

the replacement is only a 4

the V6 Vectra the Epica replaced would wipe the floor with it.

I remember seeing those on the roads in their day, they were pretty. Sounds like it's well worth getting the Japanese to design your cars for you!

but toyota was producing the same power at that time with the 1600cc 4age. makes holdens 115 from a 2.5 , 20~ years later look even more pathetic doesnt it.

You could well be right there, similar to the Torana in the '70's, they were a successful car, a bit of a different concept that Ford and Chrysler unsuccessfully tried to copy.It only turned to poo when Holden started fitting wimpy and inefficient four cylinder engines in them that defeated the purpose of downsizing in the first place. It is long overdue that Holden started selling mid size cars that people actually would like to buy, clearly rebadging either Opel or Daewoo product hasn't worked. The Epica was never going to set the Aussie/NZ markets on fire.

That is some serious hyperbole.Other Japanese manufacturers were making more power from smaller four cylinders at the time remember.

I can gaurantee you a Toyota 1.6 from that era would not be putting anywhere near 115kw down at the wheels if you dyno them. Toyota HP is over-rated at the best of times. Most stock 20V owners seem to get around 80-90kW at the wheels when dynoed.
