1995 RVR 4wd version - hypoid diff oil or normal diff oil!

bumping for Phil or other Mitsi know all about them's

Front or rear!

You know you can tell the type just by looking, right! If the input shaft lines up with the output, it's not a hypoid. Even in case of the front differential in the casing you can generally tell.

I'd say standard.

front diff and transfer case is just regular gearbox oil 80W90 GL4, must not use GL5 fluid. Rear diff is regular diff oil UNLESS it has a PLATE type LSD which is unlikely, usually would have a viscous LSD which requires just regular diff oil.

Awesome Phil et al

Thanks for that - ignore question on FB lolAm going to do a full service on her after summer and just wanted to know in advance so i could buy the parts, oils, etc one by one as i went before hand

I take it i will require quite a few litres for both diffs and transfer case! Also will the diff have a certain part number or sticker to say if it is a plate lsd or viscous lsd!

if it has an LSD fitted from factory it will be a viscous kind, but it is possible to swap an Evo/VR-4 plate type LSD into the housing. Best to jack up the rear end and spin the wheels and see which way they go in relation to each other. A viscous LSD will act like an open diff momentarily until the silicone fluid inside heats up and binds the discs together - but this depends entirely on how worn out the unit is.

Front diff is inside the transmission, so it's lubricated by the transmission fluid. Transfer case only takes 0.3L and is regular gearbox oil.

Sweet as - thanks as ever mate for info

Picked it up cheaply enough to do a bit to it - was even contemplating later date doing the + T thing - but really need to think long and hard about that - might be easier just to get an engine and manual set up from a buggered one and drop it in if my motor or trans should conk out on me in this one - it's cheap enough to drive too - 120km from $20 95 on last fill up (and that was with a bit of pushing it to see what it can do etc)

It's off having a scrub and polish to get rid of the oxidised red paintwork today - awesome job for only $80 - highly recommend the ourfit that is doing it too - very helpful and friendly - will post their details once job is done and a pic of it too
