Hi guys and hoping you can please advise.
I have a 1999 Honda Odyssey 2.3 Vtech with about 180K on clock.
For the last 4 years, or so we have been using this oil:-
Havoline® Fully Synthetic. SAE 5W-40 Havoline® Fully Synthetic is a premium performance, multigrade motor oil formulated from selected synthetic base fluids and matching additive technology for use in passenger car and light truck gasoline and diesel engines under all operating conditions. Havoline® Formula is formulated with Deposit ShieldTM to provide outstanding protection and value for cleaner, smoother-running engines. Havoline® with Deposit ShieldTM is an advanced detergent formula that helps prevent deposit build up for improved oil stability and increased engine durability.Havoline® with Deposit ShieldTM provides superior viscosity control that helps maintain engine power and preserve fuel economy.
Can you advise how long we should use between servicing!
Thanks, Ian.

Between 6 - 10,000 kms. Fully synthetic oils are more resistant to breakdown and are meant to be for longer service intervals. Good on you for using quality stuff in your car!

10 000 kms or 6 months whichever comes first. That's my advice anyway. While you are under the car, do a drain and refill on your transmission too. TQ95 fluid. Should only take 2 to 2.5 litres each time, so not a big expense. Check transmission fluid level with engine running and in 'neutral'.

You'll find that all this ^^^^^^^^^^^ BS applies to 99% of motor oils.

Thanks for the info. Bit had to drain the trans. I understood it could only be flushed.
Is that not correct!

Can anyone clarify this, please!

You can drain them, but it's not recommended, as it doesn't get all the fluid in the Torque Converter, trans lines etc as well, only what is sitting in the pan/sump

That's right. Honda recommend doing a drain, refill and drive three times to do a "proper" service. Flushing the transmission is the best way though.

What I was trying to say is, even if you do a drain and refill, it's still better than nothing. But, if you do it every 6 months for say, next two years, you will end up having clean fluid eventually from that point on. Also, (most, if not all) Honda transmissions don't have servicable filter. You can only get to it by splitting the casing, and it's only a strainer type filter, not the paper one.

ianalice-The only comment I would make for you is that maybee its time to start thinking 10w 40 at 180k -sorta preempt matters a tadd

Mugen within reason I agree with you for the average punter.
I can honestly say though that for a performance vehicle i have noticed a performance increase by going to a "race formula" oil --not a lotonly 3 hp
