If I was connecting a tach to a single rotor wankel engine, and want it to read output shaft RPM (before any reduction), and the tach is a typical 2/4/6/8 selectable deal. if I select for 2 cylinders, that would do the trick right!
Wankel will fire once for every output revolution (but 3 times for every rotor revolution).
And a 4 stroke twin should effectively fire once for every output revolution also I think.

Wouldnt it depend on whether it is a 360 degree crank or a 180 degree one, or a Ducati, or a Harley!

If it was a Harley it'd fire one and a half times a rev and leak oil, and if it was a Duc, it probably wouldn't fire at all.
