What you guys are forgetting is that ALL of you paid for that depreciation, ie; the owners wrote off their losses.
MOST were company cars.

carstauranga001, Jan 19, 12:56am
As Chinese drive left hand drive this will never happen.

dr.doolittle, Jan 19, 12:59am
I should have said "All of US".

danni_2254, Jan 19, 1:01am
Regardless, they will still export their crap here. Infact they already have 2 chinese dealerships in WGTN selling 'Great Wall' and 'Chery'

carstauranga001, Jan 19, 1:05am
That's new cars, thought you meant used imports which can't happen.

dr.doolittle, Jan 19, 1:07am
I cant wait for the Chinese to 'Up their game'.

danni_2254, Jan 19, 1:08am
Yea I did, I acknowledge your point though.

vtecintegra, Jan 19, 1:23am
It most certainly did, at least in the case of slightly specialist models like the third gen Prelude.

michael.benn, Jan 19, 1:33am
I disagree. I'd get it repainted :P

wasser61, Jan 19, 6:12pm
No it didn't the reason the price of cars reduced in that era was that the government was gradually reducing the import duty of on CBU units.

In 1991 a mazda 929 cost $90,000,same cost as a three bedroom house in South Auckland.
Now the 929 would be lucky to be worth a grand and the house would be worth 3x as much today.

Another example. My current 1987 Audi 100 CD, in immaculate condition, NZ new, full service history from new, 175,000 kms. Was $75k new, paid $1800 for it a few months ago. Drives excellent.

musikcrazee, Jan 20, 2:20am
Subaru SVX upwards of $90,000 new you can pick them up for between 2-4k nowadays.

franc123, Jan 20, 3:00am
LOL yeah I remember seeing one of those new in the local Mazda agents showroom, it was the first of the Sentia shape ones.WTF were they thinking!for example at the same time the last of the current Holden Calais VN's could be had for roughly half that.

gunhand, Jan 20, 3:07am
The VN grange was about a 100k.Rear car now.

carstauranga001, Jan 20, 3:29am
I sold one of those new to the boss of the fert works here. Yep 90 grand!

gunhand, Jan 20, 3:32am
If you believe some you woulda made 40k off it lol.

bubbles244, Jan 20, 12:51pm
and yet looking on gumtree a 2004 holden can be had for 4 grand

un_known, Jan 20, 5:12pm
ok how hard is it to import cars to aus from from nz!

ive been following the price trend for some time now, not everything is getting cheaper theres a lot of cars out there rapidly increasing in value.

like all those rear drive 323's and corollas and datsuns anything rotary powered, 80's skylines even.

was reading an old t&e type paper from 98 heres a few examples.

mazda rx4 new paint, mags, lowered, momo seats. $3200.

datsun, 120y ,1200cc mags, reg &wof $200.

Falcon xy GTHO 351 cleveland, alloy spoiler, shaker scoop, mags, all gt extras.$3500.obviously a replica but still cheap.

lots more bargains in here.the question is whats going to be popular in 10 years time!people couldnt give away rwd 323s and corollas back in the 90s cause everybody knew they were shit, now they sell for thousands.

one more thing. i remember the first time i saw a GTO. its was in a showroom for $70K i sat in thought thought it was a damn nice car but id never get to own one. now i could buy one today and it wouldnt make a dent in my wallet

carstauranga001, Jan 26, 12:33am
Wouldn't be surprised if Mazda NZ did, but wasn't given to the dealer that's for sure.
