Looking at buying a car. Tried doing a VIR on motorweb website but comes up with "confidential owner - info supressed". Anyone come across this before! Just need to check kms legit, no money owing, not reported stolen, etc

Probably belongs to a govt employee

Quite common. Could be owned by a cop, customs officer, prison guard yadda yadda yadda

Oh right, do you guys know if there's anyway otherway to check these things; money owing, kms , reported stolen, etc! or if the owner can get a VIR themself!

I would have thought all VIR reports showed that for owner now.

Easiest option would be to ask owner to supply a report

A full VIR shows all that but the current owner. So if it shows no money oweing then it it is fine. Alot of people used the opetd out thing, which came out about a year ago, so people couldnd see who owned the car. However dont buy it till they can prove ownership. That is what I do.

Don't need to use opt out to block the average user. Opt out only blocks 'privileged' users approved by the MOT. Average Joe can't get an owner name now, they can only get it confirmed if they already know it.

I tried carjam and VIR but none of that info comes up. No report is produced - Just says "confidential owner - infomation supressed"

You can request a complete blackout of your cars information, but you need a good reason.I would say this owner has done this.
