depends on the brand. Mostly it's extra interference suppression and perhaps thicker cores but mostly it's just bling. Most aftermarket leads you purchase seem to come in the 8mm variety rather than whatever it was OEM.

chev factory use to be skinny as but they lasted and engine got up to 100mph. its all bling

I. Got some from bnt last week for 50 at trade. Top gun or some thing. They were 8mm straight outta box. Do they make em thinner!
