I'm driving from Picton to Oarmaru this Sunday. What is the best route - SH1 all the way! I'm thinking it might be best to bypass Christchurch though - what are delays like on SH1 through Chch now!

no delays on SH1 - as no damage to road due to earthquake that side of town.
- dont forget to fill up in chch as petrol and diesel have not gone up in price (as of last night - dunno how long price freeze will last)

i did the same trip (except to dunedin) about 2 days before the latest quake. I took the detour throughdarfield etc, coming out just before timaru. its slightly longer distance wise, but just as quick, often quicker time wise, and much much less traffic.
