When someone mentions replacing cambelt, a lot jump in and say "replace waterpump etc" I dont replace waterpumps when I replace cambelts, talking 1st and 2nd replacements here. My question is how long do watrepumps last these days on non cambelt engines! I hardly hear of any failures. Is this a money making part of replacing belt!

If youve ever replaced a cambelt & had a waterpump fail I guess youd know the answer to your own question
I recommend it (depending on engine) but dont enforce it if thats the way they want to go
90% of Subaru's leak after a belt replacement IMHO

BTW most 3 4 & 5 FE engines pumps will be leaking thru the seal by 100k ,mad if you dont buy a kit from Toyota themselves for these

We recommend and quote to replace the water pump. Have seen it a few times and currently have a vehicle at work where the cam belt was replaced without the water pump.30,000kms later and the water pump has collapsed. Causing the belt to jump and now has no compression on three cylinders (V6 Mitsi)

The issue is more IF it leaks and/or the bearing fails not long after a cambelt replacement you are going to be up for the same amount of labour again plus the inconvenience of having to take it back to the repairer/more time off the road etc to sort it, as against spending a bit more now to get it sorted properly and not have to go in there again for however long the belt change interval is.This is especially the case on imports where how many hours as opposed to kms the engine has done is more of a mystery. The process of renewing the belt has the effect of putting more stress on a pump which has already been in use for some distance.I have seen at least two 3S engined Caldinas for example where the pump has packed it in completely at 114K and 127K and nearly caused failure of the new belt.It all has to work as a system.

My 3vzfe packed up at 200,000, my current 4age at 260,000 and one 4age pump died at 120,000. My 3s had 250,000 going strong, the DA1 integra had 260,000 no problems, the prelude I have has over 200k on it.
The 3vz I had JUST done the cambelt cause I was rushing to do cert on the car and it basically started to seize, bummer. Went though cert like that. Best to just do it, the pump was about $80 or something and knockoff ones can be as cheap as $30, surprisingly I've had no issue with the chinese ones but on yota non interference motors it doesn't matter a hoot anyway.
