The joys of a motorcycle.if the ya don't get caught lane split'n.

johnf_456, Mar 15, 3:30pm
Lol, they love doing that. You should try doing it back to them and see how they like it. Regardless how dangerous it is and the fact a car can knock them off in one hit.

Use to live in Aucks and rode from West to cbd daily for 10yrs without incidence, it's how you approach situations that determine the outcome.
Yeah for sure if your going to blast down the centre you'll cop it eventually but with good posture, positioning and awareness of your surroundings you can save time, hassles and any aggravation to others.secondhand knowledge isn't always that accurate pays to learn from experience.

1100+ motorbikes travel in and out of Wellington every day. Take away the bikes and thats 1100+ cars to add to the traffic jams.
Most cars here are happy to let bikes go as they realise it could be a lot worse.

Good grief, you are such a wet blanket! The reason why most bike accidents are caused by inattentive drivers! Because like you, they go around with bloody horse blinkers on! Believe it or not ACC don't condone lane splitting, but they have released advice on how to do it 'safely' if you insist on doing it, they encourage safe practice which is pretty sensible. Anyway, chances are you are probably the cotton wool type, so I am sure if you hit a bike travelling in the same direction as you I doubt it is going to kill or maim you to be honest

I am a very professional driver who has driven on the track and road for many years from driving 2 wheel bikes to 8 wheelers. So No you are utter wrong I have never caused any accidents. Of course the acc say that because its too hard to fully clamp down on lane splitters, they will never be able to do it. So its much better to give advice rather than be pro active and tackle the problem full on. OH and I drive 2 wheel bikes as well when I feel like it amongst my toys I have.

In all my years of driving I can proudly say I have never had a ticket or even crashed ever.

Acc and the nz police lack the man power to fully clamp down on the issue why do you think people still speed. They will never ever fully stop the problem once and for all. SO your comments very harsh and uncalled for, but if anyone likes to drive like an idiots on the road in any vehicle they deserve what they get pure self inflicted.

I got home safe and sound for 10+yrs.common sense and a regard for others and ones self is all that's needed.to be honest I think those that are irate at motorcyclists whether their actions are responsible or not are more pissed of at the fact that they're going to have to sit in traffic and not escape the rush hour as soon as a motorcyclist.

exactly.

1. Lane splitting is legal (provided the vehicles are stopped or you pass within the lane and on the right side of the vehicles.

2. It reduces congestion, you don't notice this because lots of people lane split, if they all suddenly decided not to lane split, you'd notice.

3. Air cooled bikes don't like sitting in traffic jams on hot days.

4. Bikers wearing safety gear REALLY don't like sitting in traffic jams on hot days.Dehydrated stressed out bikers are a risk factor.

5. Lane splitting should be conducted at a low speed in a safe manner, and is a beneficial practice to all when done so.
