Magnatec is a mineral oil and is as common as milk in a dairy shop. Mobil 1 is fully synthetic and also as common as milk in a dairy shop. Me thinks you need to actually look inside repco and supercheap.

Magnatec never came in 10w30. 10w40 will not give any issues, its perfectly fine. What car is it for!

2000 grand cherokee 4.7 V8 - continental cars sold me 5w20 when I wanted 10w30.that oil is too thin and is now leaking through the front main seal - dealers are such dumb arses. 10w40 will be ok with our climate and a push rod V8!

For those engines I think it says to go for either 5w30 or 10w30, but im sure you can use a 10w40 without any issues. Alternatively Valvoline has 10w30 oil if you really want it.

It's not the oil's fault. Replace the oil seal.

Don't be stupid! A lot of cars run 5w-20 and 5w-30 oils these days without a single oil leak. Falcons, Commodores, Mazdas, etc.

The rig had 10w30 in it before, no leaks out the front. as soon as I put the 5/20 in it leaked out when engine is hot. Maybe in Canada or Russia winter it wouldnt leak but here its too thin, speaking to Americans they agree also, dealers only advise 5/20 because its better on MPG. Im changing it over today and will advise if the leak has gone. Dealers dont know the difference between a catalytic converter and a resonator (Im talking your main line ones like CC, Precision etc. Local mechanics are good because they use their head and not a computer

Sorry you are wrong there, I have bought it in 10w30 grade Castrol Magnatec recommended for my car( Toyota Avalon 1MZ-FE 3 litre V6).Only thing is you can't get it in 5 litre packs in NZ , it only comes in bulk 205litre drums so I've been told! I get mine from my Toyota dealership. Check here.Castrol Malaysia www.castrol.com/castrol/sectiongenericarticle.do!categoryId.

Sometimes the Mazda/ Ford dealers sell it here on TM its called Magnatec Professional. It comes in plain white stickered 4L bottles and is a little on the pricey side. Whats wrong with the standard 10W-40!, they had it for $25ish a bottle at SCA a while back.
Rig had a oil change at 1.00pm this afternoon with 5w40. Have driven 200km and just returned home to reveal I dont have oil dripping down from the front main seal. Good thing I didnt rip the radiator out and belts just to change a seal, thicker oil solved the problem. when I changed to 5w20 not long ago it was 15km before it started leaking. Thanks all for your help.

Some oils that are developed for specific engines are only sold to the agents for that brand.
