be ok they are a based on mercedes benz diesel .I own a mercedes mb140 2.9 diesel non turbothat is likely to have the same engine as yours . The engines will do past a half a million km provided they where serviced on time.
I would definitely buy it for that price. problems i found is to get parts . but they are the (mercedes OM 602 engine)

awesome I think I will it feels very safe and its built like a freakin tank

make sure to run chemtech diesel additive on it to prevent fuel pump damage.

We run 4 of them, motors and trans ok, but parts are shocking to get hold of, i.e 3 months for throttle cable, even worse for clutch. Good on fuel, but pretty sluggish on pickup and on hills, well.

intrade, Mar 20, 8:31am
where do you get parts from!
i have looked for parts and the only place i found some was manila and tailand . or china if you buy 1000 of each.

This is not meant in a nasty way but usually older vehicles that "feel" safe like that are anything but.

If you want to buy it buy it because its cheap etc don't kid yourself and do it on supposed safety.

Non turbo versions of those are absolute slugs, OK you don't expect a N/A diesel pushing a heavyish vehicle to be a racecar but those are slow to the point of being dangerous. In a typical open road overtaking manoevre the likes of a Daihatsu Mira would be able to do it quicker. When those things were first imported here the MB dealers that sold them at the time fitted aftermarket turbo kits to them to improve matters, but sales were always poor despite being relatively cheap. You could get a much more energetic 3.2L petrol engine which was also used in E class Benzes of the era.The build quality was below average even for the price. But hey for $2K if it keeps going for a couple of years who cares.
