Exemption for left hand drive cars. Interested to know what kind of car you brought in, any problems getting the above exemption and who you used as the entry certifier! (AA, VTNZ etc) Other than the permit, the de reg certificate and bill of sale, did you show them anything else! I have researched what I think is involved, just interested in people who have actually done it and their experience.

Would like to know about this also. Looking at a 89 GTR Skyline. Rang the penrose compliance place, they said I need a copy of the Dereg certificate - without this nothing will happen also needed the Vin number (as it has been Vin'd in NZ, and country of origin. Shouldn't need the bill of sale should I as well as import papers!
They said it will have to be done as special interest

I see someone has resurrected the post I made a year ago in June 2011. I have since imported 4 cars. My only advise is do your homework first.

include in your homework, the fact that a 1989 car doesn't need a special interest vehicle permit, because it is older than 1990 therefore does not need to meet exhaust emissions, therefore doesn't need an exemption granted by the permit.

Have a check to make sure it's a real GTR rather than anything re-identified at some stage to or from a 2.0 turbo 4x4 Skyline. Not saying that there's anything particularly suss about that car, just that in general the Skylines did go through a stage where they were being plates and paper'd a lot (back when you couldn't get a GTR on the road). So make sure the VIN plate, build plate, window etching, and the firewall stamps all match and haven't been fiddled.
