Mrs has one.Last service dealer says it's due for a timing belt change at 90,000km.Any idea on ballpark figure to get this done! Are we talking under 500 bucks!

Prob not under $500 but I would say it wouldn't be a huge amount over $500.

Should have asked him when he mentioned it but this is one job you don't want to put off. If that belt snaps you're in for some serious wallet pain.

I'm assuming this one has the 4G13 for some reason, most models have the 4A90 which is all alloy and chain driven. Am guessing the 4A90 started to be used some time after 2002.

also the 4G13 is a very easy engine to do a cambelt and water pump job on. I'm assuming the parts are the same as used on the earlier 1995-2000 era 4G13, if that's the case the parts shouldn't total more than $200-300 depending if genuine or aftermarket, then the labour should be 4-5 hours max if the water pump gets changed at the same time.

My records show the 4A90 started in colts mid 2004, prior to that was the 1343CC 4G19.

oh a 4G19! sounds about right. Should be no different than a 4G13 to do a cam belt on.

I would be surprised if its under $500 from a garage. Usually $600 - $800 even for that engine.Shop around as you will be paying up to $120 + GST for labour alone at franchise dealers.

Labour time is 4 hours + parts. Includes water pump, tensioner, corrosion inhibitor (Anti-freeze) and belt pulleys and belt.
