You might also need relays.

Goto http://www.powerbulbs.com/ they have good range of after market bulbs with plus 30-90 etc,and varying brightness, deliver within 5days.And my experience they're almost half price to here, assuming the dorks at Supercheap,Repco know what a plus 80 philips bulb is!An auto sparky may help with costs, but my quote for +80 was $78plus gst, cost me $41 landed here for H7.

The claims on that bulb are Bulls***, nowhere close to HID, and 5000K (if true) takes away lots of light, so may not even be brighter.
You need to pull the bulbs (Do not touch the glass) and see if they are at least 60w - 55w.
If so then plug in before you replace in the bulb / turn on and if you cannot look directly at it ten its got to be the lens.

some very interesting thoughts there guys, i dont think adjustment will do it, they dont seem to be shining to high and there isnt alot of ligh directly in front of the car, it has slightly brighter bulbs than standard already so the relay thing might be worth a look.

Putting bulbs in with these ergs will usually require relays. PanPacific have a loom already made up with relays - all you need to do is unplug your existing lights, plug the loom onto the lights making sure the relays & hot-wire are on the side near the battery, then there's a male plug that fits into one of the original discarded plugs, attach the earth wires somewhere, mount the relays and run the fused hot-wire to power.
Took me about 20 minutes.

did the lenses come up bright after polishing dull lenses common on ef el

Sounds to me like an adjustment is exactly what they need.

Probably the most useful reply. Do not head off down the modification track until you actually know what is wrong. Have you tried to measure the voltage at or close to the bulb, if you have for example a low beam switch problem adding bigger bulbs will actually make the problem worse. Diagnose first, modify last.

Long shot, but possibly both low beam filaments blown and in fact you only have the park lamps working on low beam. Had one of these cars in for a WOF a couple of years ago and the guy said his "dip lights are not very good, they might need adjusted". God knows how long it had been like that. Realistically you need to check the adjustment on a beam setting device, the line up 10 feet from the wall is very last century and modern headlamps need to be lined up correctly. That aside, poster #17 is giving good advice with his last line.

Some good advice here and some shockers (good pun). You need to test the voltage at the headlamps, it should have at least 12v there. It may well be wrong lamps, bad earths (ground connections) or 100 other things. A multimeter is your friend.

The + range are not higher wattage, they are higher output. You don't need to change anything - just the bulbs.

As above check the basic electrics first of voltages etc.

That's handy to know. Note: I wasn't sure, which is why I used the escape word "usually"
