furry stuff which is 'growing' on my battery posts!I had heard that baking soda dissolved in hot water was ok.anyone know!Thanks in advance.

hot soapy water will be fine, then wipe posts with vasoline

Just use hot water to remove it. Straight out of the jug is fine.not boiling though;) If you wish to help prevent it building up and affecting starting/charging, you can remove the terminals, give them a good clean and put some Vasoline on the posts and terminals before putting back together.
