I have had a NZ new2003 4.8 Y61 GUIII for a couple of years and it has given no trouble. Tyres are expensive and the standard suspension is not very good but you can make them better with aftermarket springs and shocks.
They do not drive very well on the road, but they are strong, reliable and very capable off-road. They tow as you would expect - sensationally. The Patrols are normally 2wd as opposed to a similar year Landcrusier which is normally 4wd (if that bothers you)
The Patrol petrol consumption is astounding. I average around 24ltrs per 100km of city driving. The four cylinder diesel option is less thirsty but prone to piston meltdowns on the pre 2004/5 engines. Do some research on the diesel motors before you buy.
Would I buy another Patrol! Yes.

Thanks mate 3 or 4 options in the diesel engine range, interesting they don't drive that good, have they got that big slug light truck feel! 24l per 100km shit that is $50.00 for,100k man.

They have a "general disconnection to the corner" feel (if that makes sense). All my suspension is in good shape or new, but a Patrol is still a bit of wandering and slightly unpredictable 2.4 tons on the open road.
Few would argue that the best motor is the 4.2 turbo diesel, but Nissan dropped that from the NZ range in the early 2000s and a bit later in Australia
