What works out the best way to buy RUCs! Iknow they slap an administration fee on each transaction or is it unit! Also for a WOF do your RUC have to be up to date!

Answer to your first question, they add the admin fee onto the first unit of every transaction.
Dunno bout the second one but I dont *think* so. Its noted in NZTA's system if its out of RUC's as a warning.

oh thats not as bad as I thought then - I thought it must be each unit so if I bought 10 units in one hit I would just get one admin fee>!

Yep. I believe the admin fee does differ slightly between outlets and online but I could be wrong there. *waits for someone to correct her* lol

No, BUT, the inspector will log on vehicle's mileage on the wof website and if you have RUCs owing, you will get a bill in the mail.

I am looking at the vehicle "as is" mechanically it seems ok and is going for a warrant this week and thats what Im thinking with the RUCs I didnt know if it would get a warrant being outand if I buy it I guess I need to top them up

The admin fee is added to each TRANSACTION regardless of units purchased. Adin fee's depend on how you buy them. Credit card & direct post Office purchases are the same (retail) Truck firms can be a little cheaper depending on the contract type You can get a direct debit account thats a little cheaper but it's not worth the hassle unless you are doing HUGE km's. Private ppl are generally better off 9stress wise) just paying the full admin fee & saving $$ by buying a reasonable amount of km's each time.

LTNZ Ruc's charges 6/2011 RUC contact centre on 0800 655 644.
1: Single axle / 2T ticket ( Eg: Mitsi L300/ Hilux/ Nissan Safari etc ) 2: $44.31 per 1000kms 3: admin fee of $9.78
Example: 4000kms @ $187.02

Also if the ruc's are recorded wrong by the WOf inspector, THEY can get in to trouble for that.
