xr600 are a bit on the heafty side really

peejeles, Jun 13, 8:17pm
get an IT490. leave both for dead

sr2, Jun 13, 8:51pm
I remember the 490's as having a whole lot of squirt (for the time) but handling similar to your average wheelbarrow!

muzz67, Jun 14, 3:09pm
Seeing as how XR600s AND TT600s don't qualify for pre1980 VMX its not really an issue is it. lol

wrong2, Jun 14, 4:33pm
XR500 was basically the same size & the same weight as the XR250

when it came out it was a total hot rod dirt bike

jasongroves, Jun 14, 4:37pm
Had a TT500 donk in a grass cart.
Went pretty well.when we could start it;)

wrong2, Jun 14, 4:45pm
dont try the XR650 then

hondas first alloy frame trail bike & they managed to make the alloy frame Heavier than the steel one it replaced

(they made up for it with the incredible new engine - its simply fantastic)

ola_bitchola1, Jun 14, 6:31pm
there are good uses for xr600 engines putting them in gb400s

sr2, Jun 14, 6:32pm
You're probibly right, my crfx 250 would eat it for breakfast! It's funny how times change; 25 plus years ago I had a PE 250 and some guy gave me a ride on his IT490, I'll never forget the feel of all that power.

muzz67, Jun 14, 6:55pm
At least the old school 500s last a long time! Doubt ya crf250 would be running even if it only had half the hours my twinshock XR500 has on it. Has had 13 years as main bike till recently.
XR has been mx'd against moderns, vmx'd against oldies, motard'd with disc and slicks ((powerbuilt front straight is a good conrod test!)),, never come last(!),and spent hundreds of hours in the forestry too. Engine completely standard apart from a 250 flywheel.

muzz67, Jun 14, 6:58pm
Mate used to be Yamaha mechanic. Hated TT/XT500's, coz they'd come into the workshop withthousands and thousands of miles on the clock and never been apart. Trouble was every nut and bolt would be seized solid!

zx2r, Jun 14, 7:26pm
i can tell you all about that jake. the result is magic

wrong2, Jun 14, 9:29pm
well those air cooled RFVC are crap TBH

wait till you try the 650 - best single cylinder engine of the modern era AFAIC

helpless, Jun 15, 5:53am
Crap you say,,No they aren't crap. The only one with an issue was the RFVC 250,,that model has a perchant for cracking heads. The 600s and 500s have never had that problem. Some of my 600s have 60000k on them without being touched,,Very good engines the bigger RFVCs. I suppose you mean the Honda 650r when you're talking about a great engine as the 650L is still RFVC and much the same as the 600s if not identical apart from the electric start.650rs are just another modern water cooled machine that won't last anywhere near as long as the RFVCs engine wise.

wrong2, Jun 15, 2:52pm
lol

the tuning potential of the RFVC valve train obviously doesnt bother you

they are Crap with a capital C. the 650 engine doesnt even break 45 KG - its the finest dirtbike engine Honda has ever produced

wrong2, Jun 15, 2:54pm
yeah ill keep that in mind as i chug along on 12.5:1 compression

lol

wrong2, Jun 15, 5:45pm
XR250 A
XR250 B
XR250 C

XR500 A
XR500 C

87 XL 600R

95 XR 600

& nowown the fastest of the lot, 01 650R - all of them hotted , best HP improvement was the 500s. best on the gravel was the XL.

currently looking for a XR 400 frame to drop the 650 into - its amazing how heavy they managed to make it considering how light the engine is. ill end up 20 KG lighter . the 650 do handel great tho. mines lowered which is better again

muzz67, Jun 15, 7:14pm
Dont like the way the header kinks around the frames front downtube on the early 650s. Looks very restrictive. Not sure about later models.

helpless, Jun 16, 6:31am
I may as well ask you what you mean by "the tuning potential of the RFVC valve train".and when you've finished with that outline the superior tuning potential of the 650r valve train.

wrong2, Jun 16, 3:09pm
what you DONT do, is leave the standard exhaust on

that goes for just about every single 4 stroke trail bike ever made

i have each header wrapping around each side of engine - too hard to get equal length otherwise . the standard pipes for all the big bore hondas are jokes

wrong2, Jun 16, 3:11pm
why dont YOU try hotting one up. then come back here & tell us how much lift you were able to get on the cam

or how long the rockers handeled the max cam available for them. . . .

wrong2, Jun 16, 6:04pm
making noise aint the same as making power

those stock headers are bearly big enough for the same year 250

the bends are shockers & the mixer isnt really (a mixer) - its more of a turbuliser

wrong2, Jun 16, 6:15pm
they ALL are choked

NONE have anything like performance extractors on - an emptied muffler is meaningless. its the pipe that makes power

mufflers just subtract sound (whilst maintaining flow hopefully if the muffler maker knows how)

wrong2, Jun 16, 8:38pm
lol

carbie , cam , ports , piston & a pipe - & the standard HP of the XR 500 can be Doubled

lol @ factory parts

lol @ polishing

lol @ standard bikes going "pretty well"

mate - you have to get a ride on something with a decent cam & compression - you are so missing out

muzz67, Jun 17, 5:07am
""carbie , cam , ports , piston & a pipe - & the standard HP of the XR 500 can be Doubled "" Tui moment!
