Maybe.Put some gaffer tape over the split till you can be bothered fixing it.

Not sure if this is prob at this stage , but if it is will that be the case!

Can you see/hear/feel a split in the line! If not it could be a multitude of problems like a clogged Air Flow Meter or your knock sensor being on its last legs.

Yes it will affect fuel economy as it will be sucking in un measured air, Wrapped it with tape as above

Hi.Your problem may very well be the Air Flow Meter.
These should be on a replacement cycle (just like cam belts), but typical of Subaru, useless as ever.
If you have a Jap Import, it would make sense to replace it.
I have found (with Subarus) that the Air Flow Meters should be replaced every 160,000 km, as the little wire just gets too dirty and this is what causes so many problems like erratic idling, and the sensation that you have water in your fuel, etc etc etc.

There not actually useless(only as unless as the owner) and your info is misleading and incorrect! But if you wana fork out $700plus for a new one every time you change a cambelt go ahead but dont recommend to others to do the same. Fact is Subaru AFMs are of same design as nissan AFMs, these sensor type AFM can play up when a pod filter is used due to the oil in the foam filter and dirt and grime attaching its self to the sensor, however this can be cleaned by using CRC electronic cleaner,($30 per can) also these are easily reco providing you have sealant and solding iron and soldier.

could be an air leak some where! start the car up and spray some crc enginestart or 556 around different places and see if the idle incleases.
