that Surf chassis's are more meaty/heavier constructed than Hilux chassis's! I just compared a KZN130's to a LN106's and its quite noticable - especially up at the front. Or is that because the Surf's front needs to be stronger/bigger because it holds the IFS in as opposed to the LN106's solid axle!

I haven't noticed the differences, but LN106 Hilux can take more punishment than the KZN130. Also a KZN130 chassis (just like LN130) doesn't go all the way to the back, so half the boot is hanging over the back of the chassis, a real pain when you want to do some "alterations" for off road use.

LOL mmmmmm When comparing apples for apples (same intended application capacitys), I have often found in the past that the heavier gear is because they use cheaper material . just a thought!

Dunno . but looking at both fronts - the Surf uses bigger cross section for longer than the pickup, in the front end area. I agree with Mugen though . our LN106 is simpler and more robust than the Surf - and does heaps more around the place without breaking than what is asked of the Surf. The solid axle truck needs to be 'driven' though . its not a vehicle you would want to let steer itself down the road . it feels every bit of undulation and the big tires will track 'at will' if you have not got a grip of the steering wheel. The Surf on the other hand rides nice and smooth - almost car like but is pretty 'busy' under the front and currently has a snapped front axle/CV. We have never broken anything in the front of the LN and its been given more shit than the Surf.
