Beware of scam as below

Trade me just e-mailed and confirmed the e-mail we received below was from a scammer (we did suspect it anyway and didn't reply) - but just be aware incase you get the same.

Hello,

how i wish i could come and inspect and testdrive this bike but currently i'm working away from the country. I'm a marine engineer who's on a ship right now in Bahamas.so i'll be buying the bike without seeing it, Also I'll be paying via PayPal and i'm more than happy to pay the PayPal transfer charges too. Due to the distance as me being in Bahamas presently, i'll arrange the pick-up of the bike with a Private Courier Service as soon as you get your payment, I need you to provide the following details so that i can proceed with the Payment.

Your PayPal e-Mail Address :
Your Mobile Number :
final price

Soon as i make the payment and you get the funds, the Courier Service will come and pick up the bike at your home at your convenient time also the courier will help me sign the required papers.

Have a nice day

Thanks for the heads up. That scam has been around a while. The comments of the others were not necessary but are all to common in Motoring.

Whilst most of us a well aware of scammers these days I for one appreciate posts like yours djv.
They serve as a good reminder.
Dont be put off by what the vocal minority might think.

As much as I hear people saying "this is old news" I had a workmate only a few weeks ago come into my office happily saying he had sold his car and it was going to Malasya. And yep, the buyer was an engineer, paying with paypal etc etc etc.
My work mate is a young guy who hasn't spent a lot of time online, has little experience in buying and selling cars and honestly thought this was genuine so I'm all for keeping this in the public eye. - it sucks seeing someone who has worked hard for something getting shafted by some faceless prick in another country.

Gee that guy gets some good jobs . told me he was on North Sea oil platform, then in the Gulf cleaning up the oil spill ,told him to Foff

neville48, Jun 24, 2:51pm
you can play him along a bit too, all the info he gets gives him nothing he can do anything with but make him work a bit. the last bit is when he asks you to pay half the freight cost in a gesture of good faith to be paid to his agent that was going to drive from england to levin to jack up the freight, ha ha ,good story ,just a few holes, after that i asked if his mother knows about his deviancy etc and included references to his genatalia and his sister in croydon.make him work people.

djv ,,,a, bro,Im pleased you let me know about this,b, dont take shit from those other guys,c, any one can answer this for me,,
I dont quite understand how the scam works, I use paypal on a daily basis and if some one makes a payment to me, that money is mine they cant get it back, so how does this work,, exactly,,

This is e-mail from trade me that sort of explains how the scammers work.

Hi Danny,We have concerns about a member who recently viewed your Trade Me Motors listing(s). They were an overseas scammer and we have closed their membership. If you had a mobile phone number on your listing, the scammer may send you a text message from an overseas phone number asking you to email them. Do not make contact. The scammer may claim the membership has now been verified by Trade Me. This is also a hoax and is another way to trick you into making the trade. The scam is a fairly simple one, if somewhat implausible; this doesn??

Mmmmm dunno. That email seems like a scam to me.Can't have possibly come from Trademe.Trademe aren't usually that helpful. They don't have keyboards.Just a screen and a big red button with disable/delete written on it.
