Thinking about getting some wider tyres for my au wagon
We tow a cherry picker and sometimes have to go in wet conditions so thinking a wider tyre will help a little.
Currently has 205/65r15s. Will the 225 be a good choice!

Going to wider tyres in wet conditions will decrease the load / tyre= Less traction. By wet conditions do you mean on the grass etc.if so then yes better for off road.

Depends on what you want. A wider tyre in muddy conditions is worse than a narrow tyre. speaking from personal experience of farming & driving in wet conditions in mud & grass for 30yrs & my father for the last 60yrs. We run big 325/60-15 BFG M/T's on our Safari but they're not as good as the 31x10.50-15 M/T's in the mud due to the fact that they tend to sit on top & just clog, plus you have a massive surface area of mud to push in front of the tyre; whereas a narrower tyre tends to bite through the mud to the harder stuff underneath & has less of a bow-wave (so to speak) of mud in front of it. If you look at mud-boggers for example, they run a narrow tyre as do WRC for wet conditions.

Another example is we have gone to a narrower tyre on our 4WD tractor as it has way better traction on the hills than the wider tyres it had on it. A wider tyre reduces your PPSI (pound per square inch) of weight to the ground. just like a digger with wide tracks, reduces the PPSI weight but is useless for traction. A wider tyre will give you better weight distribution but not necessarily better traction. I'd be looking for a tyre of the same size with a better load rating & a bit harsher tread pattern.
