9" diff ratio

looking at a diff for my hg prem, 400sbc th400 combo, diff will come with either 2.75 or 3.1 ratio.whats the better ratio for my car and what difference will there be between the 2, cheers

if the motor has plenty of low down torque then stick with the 2.75. if you have a cam that produces its power above 4000 rpm then go for the 3.0 gears

My Stang has a 2.75 and it's pretty docile. if it ever crapped out I would consider replacing it with a 3.1

more revs aint always a bad thing especially if you have a higher stall converter in your auto. My bucket had a 2.75 & I sold it with aspare 3.5 head that I was going to fit. Met the current owner & sounds like it livened up plenty with it.

I had a 327 with th 350 tried a few gears from 2.75 to 3.50 went with 3.00 pulled good reved nice at 110kph and good mpg Was running 235/60/14 tyres

Those last 2 posts have virtually proven the point.
I had a 327 Camaro with big arsed hi profile tyres on the back that just wouldn't wear out, but I replaced them with lower profile TA's to sell it, and was amazed at the difference.
