Just wondering if the back would fit a rear facing carseat! I've been asked to help install one next week but don't want to waste my time.

dont own one, but owned similar sized cars interior wise. i would think you would have trouble fitting one in the back, but if the passengers seat was uncomfortably forward it would probably work.
alternatively if theres no air bags there is no reason why it cant legally go in the front

I assume you are talking about the Z32 series (1989-98 or so) and that you arent talking about the 2 seater version.
The 4 seater 300zx has a small and very dish shaped rear seat. To fit the seat in, I would suggest that you put some towels into the "dish trough" to made the seat base flat, and go from there.
The doors open wide and the front seats slide forward okay so getting a child seat and a small child in shouldnt be too hard. Just a bit of messing around with your bum poking out from the car really,
